The Location

Johnson County Remembrance Park – A Dream for a Time Such as This?

JCRP is starting to come together – our remembrance stones are already in place…

Here is our location for Remembrance Park – south of Iowa City – at the intersection of Sand Road & Napoleon Street SE – adjacent to the sites of the first Johnson County Fur Trading Posts of the 1830’s.

Editor’s note: It’s believed that the Iowa River channel has moved further westward than where it was in the 1820’s-30’s – thus the above map (above-red x) approximates the location of today’s Remembrance Park – about 1/2 mile east of the present day Iowa River channel.

In March 2022 – Iowa City Press Citizen writer Dick Hakes made a visit to JCRP for some pics for his article. Above are Marty & Sandy Boller, Marybeth & Ken Slonneger and Dick Hakes.

Our friends from Iowa’s Meskwaki Tribe have provided us with a beautiful vision statement that says it all. Read more about the work of keeping the Meskwaki language alive.
